Doxycycline User Reviews for Upper Respiratory Tract Infection at www.deansproperty.com.au

No side effects as taken with food and a pint of water at ingestion. If I have anything like this again, I'll press for immediate prescribing of doxy.

I have been feeling shortness of breath, head feels weird little appetite and tingling in my back. Can't get in to see my doctor this week because they are booked.

Not sure if I should stop taking the doxycycline. I don't like the side effects of it. I also found out I had chlamydia and was prescribed these, could feel improvement in my breathing by end of the first day, still coughing stuff up but seemed like it was being replaced with less.

By the end of day 3 it was like I'd never been ill. It is a wonder drug. Kept my cough at bay too. Unfortunately after finishing the course I can still feel it in my chest. I feel the course needed another week to beat the pneumonia. I had to stop after the second pill. After reading the possible side effects, I am wondering how this drug got approved.

It can kill you in more than one way or make you blind. Ask your doctor for an alternative. Didn't work and was told it was just a virus, but I ended up with septicemia and pneumonia in ICU was given Levaquin. This was July. Ended up in hospital with the same thing but other lung and not ICU this time.

First time, no fever but the 2nd time was and I started to get the chills so doctor told me to get to ER where they kept me.

I can't take Augmentin any more, I think if I had been given longer than 10 days on the Doxycycline this whole situation would have been avoided but no fever so nobody believed me and I almost bought the farm. Be nice if patients who have dealt with chronic problem were listened to. Took 2 x mg tablets on day one as instructed and the 1st evening lying in bed without persistent cough.

On day 4 no better, no side effects either. Do I stop them or finish the course. Told I was on the brink of bronchitis. Doxycycline saved me from getting worse. Doctor said not to take a tablet till 2 hours after eating, and then to take with 16 oz of water minimum and 2 dramamine pills. I ate a light breakfast and 2 hours later at 10 am took 1 pill, forced myself to drink 16oz of water and took two dramine pills. I did feel warm and kept to light activity, I did notices some reduced coughing by about 9pm.

Next morning I did the same and took additonal pill about 9pm before bed. My mucus was noticeably lighter and yellow in color the following morning.

On day 4 my mucus was clear almost and I wasn't coughing half as bad. By day seven mucus was salty, by the evening it was gone. Moral of the story, the Doc said this is strong medicine, not like regular amox.

Two tablets a day until finished. On my forms from the pharmacy it said nothing about avoiding dairy products!!. Keep in mind these ailments were nothing compared to how sick I was prior to getting the antibiotic in me and that mild stomach ache had nothing on the horrific one I had prior to taking the drug. Now I may discover other side effects before the 10 days is over, but so far this antibiotic seems to be agreeing with my body fairly well.

I've found that sandwiching the pill between a meal really helped to advert any major stomach issues. I eat half my meal, take the pill, then finish my meal and am fine.

I wanted to post this because most people only post the bad comments, but everyone has a different body chemistry. Bottom line is, you won't know how your body will react until you try it, but if you do have the severe side effects then follow the advice above and call your doctor immediately. Don't be scared or afraid and just pay attention to your body.

If it's not a good fit then you probably need a different medication. Hope this reassures anyone like me looking on info for this drug prior to taking it. Good luck and I hope you get well soon. My stomach hurts like somebody punched me in my gut. Not pleasant at all. Perhaps I'm allergic to it. I'm taking it to treat sinusitis.

Can anyone recommend another antibiotic? I have already tried Amoxycillin with no luck. If a sinus infection is not going away and other medications are not working, I think it's better to take doxycycline. I have taken it before for sinus infections and I had vomiting because of it.

Nonetheless, doxycycline is widely utilised at a dose of mg twice a day for a period of 7 to 10 days in the treatment of sinus infections.

Like skateboarding and freeway ramps. Bactrim also inhibits CYP 3A4; which you remember is responsible for breaking down the less potent R-isomer of warfarin. Bactrim can also somewhat disrupt the normal flora in the gut; which you remember is responsible for breaking down and getting vitamin K into your body. Finally, Bactrim is very highly protein bound and can displace warfarin from the albumin it's bound to in your patient's blood more on that below.

Indeed, Bactrim is the Sabretooth to warfarin's Wolverine. In higher risk, more sensitive patients, you may even hold a dose of warfarin and then reduce it. Amiodarone Let's just make a nice and tidy list to cover amiodarone.

Pro tip: That's a favorite test question in pharmacy school. Also, for honorable mention, don't forget that amiodarone can cause blue discoloration of the skin and fingernails--so don't confuse it with the purple toe that warfarin can cause. Because of the kinetics of amiodarone, this is a complex mechanism.

It can take a while for amiodarone to be at steady state. If you already have a patient stable on warfarin and you are starting amiodarone, you may actually wait a few days before decreasing the warfarin dose. If a patient is already stable on amiodarone and you are starting warfarin, use half of the dose you ordinarily would. There is also the potential for disruption of gut flora.

It's not like a cephalosporin, which is basically like a smart bomb against the poor bacteria that help you absorb vitamin K. But there's a slight chance that metronidazole could disrupt gut flora. If there is less vitamin K, there are less of those clotting factors. All of this means that Flagyl can shoot up your patient's INR. You're probably starting to notice a trend with 2C9 and 3A4 inhibition by now. You can now apply this knowledge to any other inhibitors you come across. If the patient's INR is on the higher side of their target range to begin with, you may even consider holding a dose of warfarin before starting the dose reduction.

Rifampin If you get nothing else out of this article, I want it to be that rifampin is the most powerful CYP inducer known to man. Like seriously. You have to look out for rifampin on every test. It is a red flag with a roman candle and a bullhorn screaming at you to be on the lookout for drug interactions.

When you start practicing, if you are ever managing a TB patient you will see the havoc that this little gem can cause on concurrent drug therapy. Especially because patients that get TB are usually immunosuppressed and on a cocktail of drugs as it is. You'll come across someone who is 4 months post-op from a liver transplant and taking tacrolimus.

Have fun! In terms of warfarin, you may literally have to do anything from 2x to 5x the dose if your patient starts rifampin. It's that profound. Also remember the fun little NAPLEX fact that rifampin can give your patients red-orange secretions urine, tears, sweat.

Keep that in mind because if your patient is peeing red you need to determine if it's the rifampin or if they are bleeding from the warfarin. Honorable Mention: Phenytoin Phenytoin deserves a place on this list because it just does wacky shit with warfarin. It's possible you will not need to empirically change the warfarin dose based on phenytoin initiation, but you will definitely need to harass your patient by monitoring the ever-loving crap out of them for the first couple of weeks.

So first, you may remember from pharmacology that warfarin is highly protein bound. This means that a lot of it is "inactive" as it's floating around your blood stream because it is tied up and bound to your serum albumin.

You may open a regular capsule or break up a regular tablet and sprinkle the medicine into a spoonful of applesauce to make swallowing easier. Swallow right away without chewing. Do not save the mixture for later use. Drink a full glass 8 ounces of cool water right away. Do not crush, break, or open a delayed-release capsule or tablet. Swallow the pill whole.

You may need to split a doxycycline tablet to get the correct dose. Follow your doctor's instructions. Measure liquid medicine with the dosing syringe provided, or with a special dose-measuring spoon or medicine cup. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.
